I first spotted Lisa Lapointe's www.lisalapointe.com.au incredible works through the Butchers Hook Gallery www.butchershook.net.au down the road from us in Paddington and through the wonderful world of Instagram started following her and realised that she was a neighbour of ours at Palm Beach! I was too slow to snap up one of her pieces at the gallery (it was a sell out) so figured a neighbourly visit was in order up at Palmy;)

Lisa Lapointe's art career was slow to take off; after graduating from Fine Arts at COFA she felt overwhelmed to commercialise her work which mitigated her creative space (the girl is clearly a creative genius- so i think it was maybe a situation of being good at everything and not knowing what to excel at) Lisa has worked worked with Orson & Blake, Ksubi and furniture maker Mark Tuckey and now works for the fashion label Romance was Born... It wasn't until after having her daughter (Kiki now aged 5) that she was sitting down one evening with a bunch of pencils and paper..what poured out of her surprised and pleased both herself and her now collectors that are now lining up with commissions and eagerly awaiting upcoming exhibitions.

Lisa has self confessed OCD which makes working with paint a frustrating medium so for now she favours the precise nature of a pencil; she has such a way with her Prismacolor pencils (they provide the most intense pigment) that to the average observer it almost appears like paint. But watch this space..now that Lisa is tapping creative gold i am confident she will be exploring other mediums soon as talent, ability and style this girl is not short on.

How to describe her current works..They are almost tribal in pattern but the colour palette is what stands her apart..oh the colours..when i brought home our newly purchased Lisa LaPointe i of course showed my hubby and enquired if he liked "well they are definitely your colours!" was his response think turquoise green, cobalt blue, pinks, yellows and metallic gold, bronze and silver...Her labour intensive work (each piece takes months to complete) also embody a deep spiritual element which is not surprising given that she follows New Age guru Deepak Chopra and gets her astrological charts read regularly...now for a glimpse into her Palm Beach home and studio...

One of her 'Totum's'..the pencil work is incredible you can see the hours that she pours into each piece

A digital print (she does limited editions of 10) of her 'self portrait'

Another Totem - this might be my favourite;)

Lisa (yes she just happens to be gorgeous as well as talented) in front of one of her earlier paintings which i love!

On her sandstone mantle rests the first pencil drawings that just came to her on that feted evening

The patterns just emerge and happen to look amazing;)

A wall hanging which yes Lisa made..most things in the house have been created by her!

Her living room is not surprisingly oozing style and character

Loving this sculptural wall hanging above the bed which is made from vintage seat belts! and of course i am loving these pom pom cushions

Another stunning wall hanging made by Lisa which hangs in her bedroom

More beautiful wall hangings

I am quietly in love with this chicken! was a gift from the Romance was Born duo that she currently still works for (got to pay the rent somehow!)

And the view is not bad either..i ask Lisa if she is inspired by being so close to the water..she says she is a Taurus Goat so prefers to be high and dry on land but since moving to the Northern Beaches a few years ago she said she feels at peace and could not imagine living anywhere else

Lisa's earlier paintings line the hallways

Now inside the studio which is perfectly organised (a glimpse into Lisa's OCD;)

Lisa's amazing pencil collection..

They are not your average crayola's..

a mini mock up version of our piece 'The Cave' there is minimal allowance for error when coloured pencils are involved..

Work in progress on a current commission..

can't wait to see it finished!

drawings and colour combinations litter the cork board amongst her astrological chart;)

Love this! So true....
