With New York in the news with the lashing of Hurricane Sandy i decided it would be timely to pay homage with a few of my favourite NY interiors;) Whilst researching i as usual got side tracked and stumbled upon a photographer - Christian Chaize - whose work i love - (represented through www.jenbekman.com) thinking this might be the next purchase for Paddo given that we have ended up with a few new walls up our sleeves;)

Not surprisingly the NY apartment that spurned my lust for this Photographer was decorated by my style muse BKH Burley Katon Halliday bkh.com.au who have an office in NY. BKH just have a knack to make everything look so refined and stylish.

Then there is a gorgeous Summer home in Shelter Island (behind South Hampton) owned and decorated by Clora Kelly which first featured in Feb/Mar issue of Belle, at the time i lusted over these images for weeks so i thought i would dig them up  - thank god for Elle Decor www.elledecor.com as Belle's website is non existent (what's with that?!) I am happy to report that Shelter Island weathered the storm well and am sure the NY BKH designed apartment was safe in the top floors of the pre war mid town building;)

Ian Halliday of BKH worked his minimalist magic with the owners desire for a glamorous hollywood styled apartment - i think the mix is divine; BKH have a way with curtains am loving this rug choice its from Beauvais Carpets (NY) the Ikat upholstered Louis XVI's alongside the knoll wire chair is perfection and what is a BKH living room without the Chinese drum as a side table!

The entry foyer in hand painted Di Gournay wallpaper - a little dramatic for my taste but this is a 3,300 sq ft NY apartment after all!

BKH love their mirror's as much as their curtains - i am a fan as well especially wall to wall mirrors really open up a space - a lot of people aren't fooled by them but i have to admit I AM!

The master bedroom - am loving the luxe wall panelling and the swing arm sconce's - wouldn't want that upholstered silk to fray! Another gorgeous Saarinen chair - sigh if only we had the budget!

The dining room with owner Kiane Von Mueffling...and this is where i got distracted with the art - photographer Christian Chaize who is based in Lyon France - this series of beach photo's 'Praia Piquinia' features many shots of the same beach in Portugal taken at different times of the day; this acclaimed series has been exhibited in NY and Berlin; i will be in touch with Jen Bekman gallery tomorrow to do some pricing;)

The living room of the Shelter Island home owned and decorated by Clora Kelly; again such a gorgeous mix of styles and era's of furniture - love that white coffee table (from Marika's a vintage shop on Shelter Island - zero chance of tracking that one down!)

Shelter Island - 19th Century ornate side table mixes so well with the contemporary art; loving those matching mirrored lamps and white lacquered chairs? (have no idea what they are!) But the symmetry of them all together looks great!! Again the white floors - the unifying feature throughout the whole house allows the pops of colour to shine through rather than clash.

This my favourite room! These African masks were a store display at Marika's!! (some vintage store on Shelter Island!) they just pop against the crisp white walls and that gorgeous pink quilt; love the Babushka family on the side table as well - so cute!

The chocolate brown and white striped walls were painted on by Clora in the dining room - they really anchor this room and provide a bit of drama; again such a clever mix of era's - art deco mirror to the antique dining table and cow hide covered chairs; and who says a rug has to cover the entire table and chairs!

The gorgeous terrace that overlooks the lawn and pool; the lucite table works so well here amongst the matching wooden chairs and rattan floor cushions - Clora Kelly decorated the whole house in 1 week!! whilst pregnant!!
