This week we trekked back into Paddington for my 5 Yo's school orientation; we were both as nervous as each other ( me maybe more!) for more than the ordinary reasons of saying goodbye to my first baby and meeting a whole bunch of new strangers that we will spend the next 6 or 7 years with but we were also re orientating ourselves with Paddington and the city lifestyle. This may sound a little dramatic however living in Palmy is like living in a country town (which i happen to love) - when you go into town (Avalon) you know or at least recognise 80% of the people, there is always a car space free which is non metered and there is even 90 degree angle parking!

So whilst i prayed to the parking gods as i inched down Oxford St long and behold we hit parking gold- the clearway had just opened up! Ella and i excitedly crossed over into the school grounds reassuring each other how great this was going to be (the orientation day) and just as Ella was ushered off with her new class mates i started to PANIC!! Not separation anxiety...parking ticket anxiety...i had forgotten to put money in the METER!! I spent the next 40 minutes preying that those fluro jacketed meanies would stay clear of our car whilst i was trying to absorb lectures from the teaching staff of how to give your child the best start to school i was worried about avoiding that tiny yet expensive piece of white paper on the windscreen.

As i nervously mingled with other new Mum's Ella cleared half of the Tim Tam packet (like Mother like Daughter) and i quickly ushered her back to the waiting car....The gods were on our side - NO TICKET! We had a celebratory lunch (for not getting a ticket and for the orientation) at Alimantari Cafe (on the corner of Hopetoun and William St, Paddington) then had a bit of retail therapy at Ella's favourite dress shop (yes this is a little disturbing she is only 5) Leona Edmiston www.leonaedmiston.com she does gorgeous girl's clothes at reasonable prices; we also poked our heads in next door at Di Nuova www.dinuovo.com.au my favourite shop - recycled (most of the time never even worn) designer clothing and accessories at a fraction of the RRP; the owner has a really good eye and they have a great array of French brands that aren't sold in Oz like Isabel Marant and Les Petites - check out their blog which they update weekly as they get new stock in all the time.

We then went to Ella's favourite park - Parsley Bay in Vaucluse then rounded the day off with hot chips at the CYC at Rushcutters Bay (don't even get me started on parking in that neighbourhood!) So we well and truly re orientated ourselves back in Paddo;

Alimantari - Paddington's own slice of Italy but with good coffee - has a gorgeous courtyard out the back which not many people know about!

Ella and Gigi in their matching Leona Edmiston dresses - am not normally one for a matching outfit but they insisted - and made for some very cute photo's!
